Save the Date! – USOPHE Fall Conference – Mark your calendars for the First Annual Fall USOPHE Conference on Tuesday October 13th at the Provo City Library

In an effort to accommodate more professionals, USOPHE has decided to change things up a bit.  We will no longer be having two conferences throughout the year (Fall Forum and Spring Conference).  USOPHE is excited to offer ONE full day conference in the fall where we will offer several CHES and MCHES credits.   We are also planning other professional development opportunities for professionals and students throughout the year.  Please mark your calendars!!!!  Call for abstracts coming soon…..

First Annual USOPHE Spring Conference

The first annual USOPHE spring conference will take place on Friday, April 3rd, 2015 at the Karen Gail Miller Conference Center located at the SLCC Larry H. Miller Campus in Sandy.  The format of the conference will change slightly.  For the first time, we will offer an optional “early bird” session for those who would like to receive an additional CHES/MCHES credit.  In all, we will offer 6 CHES/MCHES credits for the conference!  The conference schedule will be as follows:

7:30 a.m. Registration opens
7:45-8:30 a.m. Early Bird Session: “Disaster Thinking” (optional)
8:30-9:00 a.m. Breakfast
9:00-9:30 a.m. Welcome message from USOPHE President
9:30-10:20 a.m. Keynote – Recovery and Re-integration of Veterans: The Role of the VA in “Meeting Veterans Where They Are”
10:35-11:20 a.m. Breakout Session – Top Health Education Resources from the National Library of Medicine OR Healthy at Every Age: A Collaborative Cancer Project for Seniors
11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Breakout Session – See Through the Vapor: Past, Present and Future of E-Cigarette Regulation OR Congenital Cytomegalovirus: The Utah Policy and Public Health Experience

1:30-2:15 p.m. Breakout Session – An Examination of the Relationships Between Exercise, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, and Multiple Sclerosis OR Radon Video: Going Viral with an Odorless, Colorless Gas

Registration Open for the HEAU 2014 Fall Forum

Registration for the HEAU 2014 Fall Forum is now open!  The event will take place on Friday, November 7th at the Salt Lake City Public Library located at 210 E. 400 S. in Salt Lake City.  The conference will begin with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at noon.  The forum will provide attendees with opportunities to learn about new and exciting information from distinguished and respected professionals within the field of health education while earning up to 3 CHES/MCHES credits.  The conference will consist of two keynote presentations, one on legalization of marijuana and the other on the effective use of social media to brand yourself and the field of health education.  There will also be one breakout session with two presentations to choose from, one on art journaling and the other on mental health crisis services in Utah.  The conference schedule will be as follows:

8:30-8:50 a.m. Breakfast
8:50-9:00 a.m. Welcome and announcements regarding the U-SOPHE transition
9-9:50 a.m. Keynote #1
10-10:50 a.m. Breakout Session
11-11:50 a.m. Keynote #2
11:50-noon Prize drawing and wrap-up

This should be a very informative set of presentations.  Registration is $15 if registered by Friday, October 31st and $20 thereafter, including walk-ins.  Please note, walk-in registrations will be limited to the first 15 people due to time constraints and food availability.  You will also have the opportunity to pay for your CHES/MCHES credits ($3 for HEAU members or $5 for non-members) during the registration process.  We hope to see you there.  To register for the conference, please click HERE.

Please note, parking at the library is the responsibility of the conference attendee (up to $12 per car).  Therefore, we highly recommend attendees carpool and share the cost of parking or ride public transportation.  As an incentive to do so, those who carpool or ride public transportation will receive an extra ticket for the prize drawings.

SAVE THE DATE!  HEAU SPRING Conference 2013:  “Focus on the Future:  Emerging Trends in Public Health”

The spring 2013 HEAU conference will be held on Thursday, March 7 from 8 am to 4 pm at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley.  If you would like to present at the conference, please contact James Bemel at JBEMEL@uvu.edu for an abstract proposal.  In addition, we are seeking Board nominations for President Elect, Treasurer, Professional Board Member, and Student Board Member.  If you are interested in serving on the HEAU board, please contact Patty Cross at pattyc@utahcounty.gov.  Patty is also taking award nominations.  Please contact Patty if you would like to nominate a student, colleague, or organization for an award.  If you have questions, please contact Mary V. We are currently building our conference agenda and are looking for exciting and knowledgable presenters to address topics applicable to Health Education as we progress toward the year 2020. If you are interested in presenting during a 50 minute session, please read the following information about submitting an abstract. The deadline for submissions is January 6, 2012.

Abstract Submission:

The Health Education Association of Utah invites both professionals and students to submit an abstract for presentation at the 2012 Spring Conference. We are particularly interested in receiving breakout session presentations on topics that demonstrate application of knowledge, skills and tools of the future or other areas that are of particular interest to HEAU students and professionals such as public health issues, collaboration strategies, program planning and research. Another important topic could be how the new National Prevention Strategy released this June will affect the future of our profession.(This is not a comprehensive list and all submissions will be carefully and fairly reviewed). Anyone with knowledge and experience in the health field is encouraged to submit an abstract for review.

Submission Deadline is January 6, 2012.

Theme:“HEAU with 2020 Vision- Focusing on the Future”

Oral Presentations:
- Professionals may submit an abstract to present during a 50 minute session
- Students may submit an abstract to be one of two-three oral presenters during a 50 minute session

We are still working on the agenda, but you can expect some great presentations. If you are interested in presenting either an oral or poster presentation, please read the following information about submitting an abstract. The deadline for abstract submissions is December 17, 2010.

Abstract Submission:

The Health Education Association of Utah invites both professionals and students to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation at the 2011 Spring Conference. This will be a great opportunity to present on public health issues, collaboration strategies, program planning and research. Anyone with knowledge and experience in the health field is encouraged to submit an abstract for review.

Submission Deadline is December 17, 2010.

Theme: Winnable Battles

Oral Presentations:
- Professionals may submit an abstract to present during a 50 minute session
- Students may submit an abstract to be one of three oral presenters during a 50 minute session (15 minutes each)

Poster Presentations:
-Professionals & students may submit an abstract for a poster presentation which will be displayed during the conference

Abstract Criteria:
